The Vice Chancellor and President of James Cook University, Professor Simon Biggs together with the University Council cordially invite you to attend the Investiture Ceremony of Professor Ngiare Brown. The event is an historic milestone for James Cook University as we welcome the University's first female, and first Indigenous, Chancellor.

Given the significance of the occasion, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland will be participating in the Investiture Ceremony.

The Investiture, a traditional academic ceremony held within the first year of a chancellor’s tenure in which they are formally vested with the symbols and ornaments of their position, will take place at James Cook University’s Bebegu Yumba campus in Townsville on Thursday, 1 June 2023, commencing at 3pm.

Following the official proceedings, guests are invited to ... stay on campus to attend JCU’s annual Mabo Lecture, to be delivered by Professor Tom Calma AO in Sir George Kneipp Auditorium.

A reception at Central Plaza will follow the Lecture where guests will have the opportunity to meet Professor Brown and other distinguished guests, and members of the University community.
