FAQs

The Guidance Professionals Summit (GPS) is the newly rebranded TeacherX event. GPS is JCU's dedicated program for guidance officers and career advisors, offering an interactive, on-campus experience to help you navigate university pathways, explore career opportunities, and strengthen your professional toolkit. Through hands-on sessions, campus immersion and direct access to JCU experts, GPS equips you with practical insights to guide your students confidently towards their future.

The Guidance Professionals Summit (GPS) will be held at JCU Cairns, Nguma-bada campus, Smithfield – Monday 30 March – Tuesday 31 March 2026.

Once you get to the JCU Cairns, Nguma-bada campus, Smithfield we’ll take care of the rest. Day one will be held on campus and day two will include an off-site adventure to a JCU facility. A program will be available prior to the event.

We understand the cost burden travelling may have on schools and we want to encourage everyone with the opportunity to participate. Travel subsidies are available for attendees flying into the Cairns region. To enquire about a travel subsidy, please contact futurestudents@jcu.edu.au for more information. Please note, schools are required to pay flight invoice in full. Funding beyond one staff member per school will be considered on a case-by-case basis due to limited spaces available in the program.

Accommodation is provided for Sunday 29 March to Wednesday 1 April (total 3 nights). If you require additional nights, please contact the hotel directly to arrange. Attendees will stay at an off-campus accommodation provider as all on-campus accommodation is fully booked. There will be an accommodation tour included in the program so you can experience JCU's on-campus facilities.

We alternate campuses each year to give guidance professionals the chance to experience different JCU locations. This approach lets us showcase the unique facilities, programs and opportunities available across our campuses. While GPS is hosted in Cairns, Townsville will be featured in a future rotation - so stay tuned! If you are visiting Townsville throughout the year and would like to see the campus, please contact futurestudents@jcu.edu.au and we can accommodate a tour.

Yes, we’ll provide you with a certificate of attendance after the event.
